Hi Howlies and Voices Entwined members!
I am happy to be emailing you all today regarding our joint project, Mni Wiconi – Virtual Choir! Some of you may remember all the way back in 2019 when Louise and I conducted this song together in Walsall Arboretum for Sing for Earth day – (in the pouring rain and howling winds if I remember right!) It was one of the first songs I taught as a choir leader under the guidance of our fantastic Louise and brings back many happy memories. Voices Entwined have performed it on a few occasions and it is just a fantastic song which is why I chose it for this joint project.
I know that both choirs have been involved in these kinds of virtual choir projects over lockdown so have an idea of what to do. I have attached a document to this email that will guide you through how to record your part(s) step by step and how to get the best out of your recordings. It also has the links in to the guide tracks. There is no obligation to take part and I fully understand that it can be quite a daunting experience recording yourself and listening back to it but I would LOVE as many of you as possible to be part of it as it will be AMAZING!
I would like to accompany the audio recording with a video full of photographs (taken by choir members) that fit the song – so think about the words, water – meadows – larks – earth – sky - thunder etc. Please make sure you only send photographs that you have taken or that you have permission to share.
A couple of words of advice regarding recording yourself. Try not to be too hard on yourself – there are very few people that like hearing their own voice, speaking or singing. Your voice will blend with everyone else’s so it will sound as beautiful as when we sing together in the room. Singing in a choir is about the blend of voices, not how we all sound individually. Some of my members have started just recording their part and sending it without listening back to it! As long as you think it was your best effort the I can’t see any problem with that! It may also be reassuring to know that I rarely sit and listen to an individual recording as it would take me forever – I simply drop your recording into the mix and adjust it so that it is time with everyone else. All recordings sent will be used in the final mix as I really do appreciate the time and effort that everyone puts into a project like this.
Please see the attached document for the lyrics, instructions, and links to the folder with the audio tracks. If you have any trouble accessing it, please let me know and we will find another way. You will need 2 devices (phone/tablet/laptop) to be able to take part. If you do not have 2 devices but would still like to take part, please let me or Louise know and we will see if we can help.
Please send all recordings and photographs to email@example.com by Monday 8th March. You can also whatsapp or email the recordings to Louise on 07946344281 or firstname.lastname@example.org.
We thank you all in advance and hope you enjoy taking part in what promises to be an amazing project!
Much love & Gratitude
Sarah & Louise xxx
